Nestled amidst the serene landscapes of Northeast Victoria lies ‘Spring View,’ a small 15-acre family farm that embodies the essence of rural charm and natural beauty. Located in the picturesque countryside of Ebden overlooking Lake Hume, it serves as a haven of tranquillity and serenity.
For Cait, owner of Spring View Irises, her journey with flowers began in her childhood. Influenced by generations of garden-loving family members, Cait’s passion for gardening took root at an early age. From tending to marigolds and geraniums in her sandpit to cultivating her own floral sanctuary, Cait’s love for blooms seemed to ‘blossom’.
Cait soon discovered the allure of Bearded Irises, captivated by their vibrant colours and resilient nature. What started as a small handful of plants soon flourished into a diverse collection, showcasing the kaleidoscope of hues and shades that these irises offer.
In 2018, fuelled by their shared love for these captivating blooms, Cait and her husband Brad embarked on a new chapter, establishing Spring View Irises as a family-run business. With Brad’s background in horticulture and Cait’s expertise in administration and marketing, they formed a dynamic duo that propelled their venture to success.
Today, Spring View Irises boasts over 800 modern varieties of Bearded Irises, ranging from classic hues to vibrant tones rarely seen in traditional gardens. The irises grow over three plots of undulating slope. The runs are mounded into a tee-pee shape to ensure good drainage, with the rhizomes positioned beneath the soil to best cope with the Australian climate.
“We religiously fertilise once a year during late winter, with only Sudden Impact for Roses. Year after year our irises thrive as a result, and this shows with their prolific blooms,” says Cait.
For Cait and Brad, their farm is more than just a business—it is a labour of love, a testament to their dedication, and a place where one can enjoy the timeless allure of irises.
“We feel we have created a magical paradise and love meeting like-minded people who appreciate the beauty of our irises,” says Cait.
Spring View Irises offer direct sales to the public, including cut flowers to florists, and open by appointment in spring when the blooms are at their finest. If you’d like to find out more about Spring View Irises or would like to get in touch, head to www.springviewirises.com.au
