Balmoral Flower Farm

Tucked amidst the rolling hills and majestic gum trees of Southwest Victoria, Balmoral Flower Farm is a true haven for owners Alice and Joel, along with their three young children. Situated on Joel’s family’s mixed grazing property, the farm is devoted to growing seasonal, premium-quality cut flowers, bringing beauty and joy to their local community.

The journey to flower farming began as a simple yet profound passion for Alice. After the birth of her first child and spending most of her time at home, Alice found solace and creativity in gardening. It became her outlet, blending physical activity with artistic expression. Then came the discovery that changed everything: dahlias.

“I was instantly hooked on their beauty,” Alice recalls, “and all of their diverse colours and forms.” Over time, this fascination evolved into a love for the rewarding cycle of growing, digging, dividing, and replanting.

“What started as a hobby has blossomed into a purpose to make fresh, sustainably grown flowers accessible within our local community. Locally grown flowers have a much smaller environmental footprint, compared to the weeks old bunches available to throw in the trolley during your supermarket shop that have been freighted all around the country (and the world!).”

The farm’s current collection of flowers includes a vibrant array of blooms, from charming dahlias and zinnias to the delicate allure of feverfew, delphiniums and chrysanthemums. Spring promises even more variety, with ranunculus, snapdragons and poppies set to steal the show.

To achieve healthy blooms ensuring plenty of flowers to offer, Alice pays special attention to nutrition and soil health. Her go-to range includes Sudden Impact for Roses which is used on roses and dahlias, run efficiently through a fertiliser injector system for drip irrigation. The dahlias, cut flower beds and vegetable beds receive a regular dose of POPUL8 and GOGO Juice, along with Gyganic for Veggies, Fruit and Citrus on the fruit trees and vegetable garden. Rooster Booster is used on general garden beds and trees for a gentle feed, Sudden Impact for Lawns for their lawns, and Seamungus over the garden over winter.

Alice’s passion for flower farming is evident in every bloom, and she’s eager to share her journey with others. Stay connected by following Balmoral Flower Farm on Instagram at @‌balmoralflowerfarm, and explore their new website at www.balmoralflowerfarm.com.au to learn more.
